Receipt March 2, 2008

I wish I had a receipt for my body so I could I could get an exchange for the defective merchandise I have received.

Sunday night, 1 am, all is calm, everyone but I is asnooze in their beds. I’m watching Larry the Cable Guy. Classy. Suddenly, I feel like I’m dying. Honestly. It was horrific. I couldn’t catch my breath, with sharp pain in my upper abdomen, in between my shoulder blades and the right side of my neck. I went up to Mom and Dad’s room and woke her up. I told her what was going on and she drove me to the Emergency department at University Hospital.

I was taken pretty much right away. They needed to do blood tests so Mom came and sat with me. It was a nightmare, the first nurse tried twice to get a vein and couldn’t so she had to call another nurse. By that time I was panicky and in a lot of pain. Blood pressure was 170/90 and my pulse was really fast (I don’t remember what it was but they were more concerned with it than the blood pressure). I went for an X-Ray and broke my necklace (double bummer). The blood test showed my amylase and white cell count were a little high, but they weren’t really sure what was going on and the pain was going away so I wouldn’t be having surgery that day but that I needed to follow up with my family doctor. I was discharged around 4 am. I had a few more attacks in the following days.

The upside of this was that I figured out I react better to blood work when I’m laying down. The nurse at the hospital and the lab used this tiny butterfly needle with a little tube attached which really helped things.

I had an ultrasound on Thursday and got the results on Friday. I was positive that the ultrasound wouldn’t tell us anything but I was surprised when they found a gallstone.

The stone isn’t near or in the bile duct so I don’t need immediate surgery but will have a surgery consult soon.

Anyhoo, that’s the news. I’ll keep you updated. Ciao.
